(an english version of this text is available at the bottom of the page) Mit dieser Autobiographie gewährt uns Heinz-Jürgen Vogels bewegende Einblicke in sein Fühlen, Denken und Handeln. Aus einem katholischen Elternhaus stammend und mit zahlreichen Juristen unter den Vorfahren, beginnt er nach dem Abitur ein Jurastudium. In der katholischen Jugendgruppe kommt ihm der Gedanke: "Eigentlich tut doch einzig der Kaplan etwas Sinnvolles. Er schafft für die Ewigkeit, weist die Leute darauf hin und sorgt sich, dass möglichst viele dorthin gelangen, wovon er verkündet. Ist das nicht der einzig lohnende Beruf? Alles andere ist von begrenztem Sinn und von begrenzter Dauer." In der Osternacht des Jahres 1952, in deren Liturgiefeier er als Weihrauchträger und Lektor am Altar mitwirkt, wird ihm in tiefster Seele klar, dass beim Dienst am Wort Gottes und der Liturgie sein Platz sei und nirgends sonst. Auf die Studien und die Vorbereitung auf eine Doktorarbeit in einem Theologenkonvikt folgt die Priesterweihe im Februar 1959. Die Zeit im Konvikt ist durchaus mit Problemen belastet, da ihn der Gedanke, sich selbst entfremdet zu sein, mit schwerer Krankheit plagt. "Die sogenannte Amtsgnade und die Gnade der Ehelosigkeit sind nicht dasselbe, und sie werden nicht immer zusammen von Gott gegeben." Und schon bald nach der Priesterweihe beginnt ein innerer und äußerer Kampf, der in der vorliegenden "Dokumentation" knapp aber so eindringlich niedergelegt ist, wie man es derartig spannend und nachvollziehbar von einer Dokumentation nicht erwartet. Es beginnt eine besondere Art von Schachturnier auf hohem und höchsten Niveau der Institutionen und der Argumente über die Vereinbarkeit von Priesteramt und Ehe. Bekannten Zügen wird mit immer wieder überraschenden Wendungen begegnet. Heinz-Jürgen Vogels hebt sehr bald die Auseinandersetzung von der kirchenrechtlichen Ebene auf eine bisher nicht verwendete theologische Ebene, setzt göttliches Recht gegen Kirchenrecht. Kern seiner Argumentation ist der Anspruch des Apostels Paulus,verheiratet sein zu dürfen (1 Korinther 9,5) und die Berufung auf das Jesuswort: „Nicht alle fassen diese Sache der Ehelosigkeit, sondern nur die, denen es gegeben ist“ (Mt 19,11): es ist offensichtlich nicht allen Priestern gegeben. Heinz-Jürgen Vogels beschränkt sich in seinem Kampf nicht auf seine persönliche Situation. Er sieht mit großer Deutlichkeit den Priestermangel der Kirche ("Gegenwärtig stehen rund 95.000 verheiratete katholische Priester den 400.000 unverheirateten weltweit gegenüber. Die Zahlen sind ungenau, weil die Kirchenoberen sich weigern, genaue herauszurücken." Aus dem Vorwort von Richard Picker.) Deshalb engagiert er sich seit fast 20 Jahren in leitender Funktion bei der "Internationalen Föderation verheirateter katholischer Priester". Diese hat 1985 in Ariccia in den Albaner Bergen eine weltweite Synode abgehalten und ein sehr stark beachtetes Dokument "Vereinbarkeit der Sakramente des Priestertums und der Ehe" erarbeitet und verabschiedet, das im Anhang abgedruckt ist. Im Abschnitt 5 wird betont, dass außer den theologischen Gründen auch pastorale Gründe für die Aufhebung der Zölibatsverpflichtung sprechen (z.B. "Bis zu einem Drittel der katholischen Pfarreien haben keinen eigenen Pfarrer.") Diese Dokumentation macht den Leser mit einer Fülle theologischer Themen, kirchenrechtlichen Regelungen und historischen Hintergründen bekannt. Auch die unzeitgemäße Ausbildung in katholischen Priesterseminaren kommt zur Sprache. Das Buch spart nicht das persönliche Empfinden, den Schmerz und die Freude aus. Das Buch ist ein politisches Buch, weil es deutlich machen will, wie wenig der Vatikan in den vierzig (!) Jahren des Dialogs mit Heinz-Jürgen Vogels dessen Argumenten entgegensetzen konnte. Dass der Vatikan also den Pflichtzölibat aufheben müsste, aber es nur noch nicht will, wie Kardinal Ratzinger sagte. Dieser hat übrigens freundlich auf die Zusendung des Manuskriptes des Buches reagiert, womit er anerkannt hat, dass es kein kirchenfeindliches Buch ist. Die Schlussfolgerung am Ende des Buches lautet: "Jeder Priester kann unter Berufung auf I Kor 9,5 eine sakramentale Ehe eingehen. Rom wird sie nicht für ungültig erklären, weil das Petrusamt nicht gegen das göttliche Recht entscheiden kann und es in meinem Falle nicht getan hat." The autobiographic records of Heinz-Jürgen Vogels are exciting to read like a detective story. The author portrays the diverse and often down wearing stages of his fight against a law which has become obsolete long ago. In unrelenting openness, the married priest shows to which degree he himself has experienced the morbific aspects of compulsory celibacy for Catholic clerics, and he reports, how and in which form he found healing through marriage. He was, however, not content to find a solution for himself only, but from the outset he was solicitous to launch his case as an example. In untiring eagerness, Vogels succeeded to challenge again and again the different church authorities, up until to the highest positions in the Vatican, to clarify the fundamental question of the right of priests to marriage, by means of his own case, and he eventually got the satisfaction that, in the final analysis, the Vatican was not able to counter the arguments brought forward by him.
